While there are a number of tools designed for removing the chrome waste water drain from the bottom of a bathtub, the most effective tool is usually a sharp steel chisel. Start by removing the plug at the bottom of the bathtub, but do not remove the ring that seals the shoe to the tub. Next, you will need to remove the basket from the shoe by turning it counterclockwise. To do this, you will need to notch the face of the chrome ring with the chisel and turn the basket a quarter turn. Repeat the process every quarter turn until the basket comes out and you can remove the old waste water drain and overflow parts under the tub. Follow the manufacturer’s directions for installing the new waste and overflow.
